Clear, Phased Representation — Based in LaPorte County

Every case is different, and legal fees should reflect the actual scope of work involved at each stage. Below is an outline of how representation is structured in phases, so you know exactly what you’re paying for — and what isn’t included — before you decide how to move forward.

This page applies to felony matters only. I do not handle misdemeanor cases. This page is for general information only — actual fees, scope, and terms are set out in a signed engagement agreement.

Initial Consultation — $250

A $250 consultation fee applies for prospective private clients to discuss your case and determine the appropriate scope of representation. This fee does not apply to matters where I am appointed as public defender.

Phase 1 — Bond Investigation & Hearing

$1,000 flat fee, one-time

What’s included:

  • Investigation into bond status and eligibility
  • Preparation for and representation at the bond hearing

What’s not included:

  • Plea negotiation
  • Trial preparation or trial
  • Any hearings beyond the bond hearing

This is a limited-scope engagement intended to address the immediate issue of bond only.

Phase 2 — Negotiation & Plea Agreement

Fee: Negotiable — contact for a quote

Includes everything in Phase 1, plus:

  • Up to 15 hours of negotiation, communication, travel, and hearings toward a plea agreement
  • Hearings are billed as one hour each, regardless of actual hearing length

What’s not included:

  • Trial preparation or trial itself

Phase 2 is designed for clients seeking to resolve their case through a negotiated plea agreement, without proceeding to trial.

Phase 3 — Full Representation Through Trial

Fee: Negotiable — contact for a quote

Includes everything in Phases 1 and 2, plus:

  • Full trial preparation
  • Representation through a bench or jury trial to conclusion

What’s not included:

  • Appeals
  • Post-conviction relief
  • Sentence modifications
  • Probation or parole revocation proceedings

Phase 3 is for clients who want their case taken all the way through trial, with a lawyer who is fully prepared to try it.
